Technical Planning - Name of Film

Name of film - why will it appeal to the audience?
The name of our film is 'The Woman In White' this was as our film idea was inspired by the film The Woman In Black, which was produced by Hammer Studios in 2012. So from this the audience could start to think about what could happen throughout our film as the title doesn't give any thing away to the audience to it leaves them guessing on what the film could be about. This would then interest an audience as the title gives away a lot of information to who have seen The Woman In Black and they could start to suspect what they are going too see through seeing the one we got our inspiration from.

Technical Planning - Script

Technical Planning - Script

When we created our script, we decided to keep it short and simple so that too much isn't given away with the opening sequence of out film, this is so that the audience want to continue with the film. Here is a copy of our script which we created, this shows that there was only two lines of dialogue within our opening sequence, this was also so that there wasn't a lot of action within the first two minutes.

Technical Planning - Storyboard

Technical Planning - Storyboard

We created a storyboard by using images so that we would not need to spend a lot of time drawing and creating a storyboard and my using technology when creating these to keep it neat and organised.
Here is a copy of our storyboard.

Technical Planning - Opening Sequence Idea

Technical Planning

Opening Sequence Idea
Me and my group (Brandon Playford, Tommy Brading and Brooke Spencer) planned and created an opening sequence including titles. Our idea was inspired by the film The Woman In Black, but our film begins with the bride and groom getting ready for their big day. As the bride is ready, her friend comes into her room and tells her that she needs to go as she is running out of time. As they are walking through a corridor to the wedding the bride hears a noise but her friend doesn't hear anything and continues walking, as the bride stops and looks around after hearing a loud bang a man in a hoodie runs out of a room grabs the bride puts her in a head lock and cuts her throat and let's her drop to the floor. With that the titles run for the opening title sequence, then once you go back to the film, the bride has been dead a few years and she has been haunting her killer and his girlfriend, after he got away with the murdering of her, she is out for revenge. The happy couple aren't aware that they are being watched by someone from their past, and that is where our story starts.

Questionnaire and Results

Questionnaire and Results

This is a good way to find out what your target audience is interested in?
A good way to find out what your target audience is interested in, is by sending out questionnaires and receiving feedback on them, to help you structure your film. We created questionnaires for our peers and we also created a Vox Pop. For them both we had structured questions to ask. We asked people if they watched Gothic Horrors before asking them to fill out a questionnaire because otherwise they might not know what is involved in a Gothic Horror.

With our Vox Pops, we explained our title sequence idea to each person which we questioned so that they had an idea what our idea involves, we done this off camera so you unfortunately cannot hear us explaing what our film idea was to them.

This was our questionnaire for our peers:

These was the questions which we asked during the Vox Pop:
1.       Do you enjoy watching Gothic Horrors?
2.       What do you think of the Woman in Black?
3.       After hearing about our film idea, do you like the sound of it or not? Why?
4.       Do you think the killing of the woman will be too soon?
5.       Would you change anything of our film idea? If yes why?
6.       What’s your favorite part of our idea?
7.       What is the worst part of our idea for our title sequence?
8.       Do you like the story line so far?
9.       Do you think the setting matches our film genre?
10.   Out of 10, what would you rate our idea overall?
11.   Would you like to watch our film opening when it is filmed and finished?

This is our completed Vox Pop:

What do they tell you about your target audience?
After getting the questionnaires back we looked over them and was deciding what we can do to improve our opening sequence for our final task. The questionnaires told us that the audience which we questioned, like horrors and that they would like to see more history behind the storyline, another person which filled out a questionnaire said too make sure that the storyline is good or the audience will be bored easily as they will not be interested in a film with a poor storyline.

Target Audience Research

Target Audience Research

The genre which I have chosen to research and create a short opening scene and title sequence is from the film genre of Gothic Horror.

Who are your typical audience of your genre?
The typical audience for my genre type is for people over the age of 12 or 15 that enjoy watching horrific things and don't get scared easily. The main target audience for Gothic Horror are Goths and Gothic people and people who are usually into jumpy films and aren't afraid of seeing blood and other gory features of Gothic Horror. This audience is who the Gothic Horror companies target their films out too so that they can interest the target audience and other audiences as it jsnt just the stereotype of people who watch Gothic Horrors. These films usually have a certification rating which for ese type of films are rated for 15+ and when they are more gory and horrific they will be rated 18+ this is so that people of younger ages do not watch these films as it then might scare them.

A production company that produce Gothic Horrors is Hammer Studios, their main target audience is usually aimed at teenagers and adults, the age cerfitcate is usually at a rating of 15 so that the younger generation is attracted aswell as the adults. This is to widen their target audience so that the film they produce is going to be a success. When creating and marketing these films they are most commonly known to reach out to then teenagers and young adults as elderly people, stereotypically do not like or enjoy watching Gothic Horrors as they have gotten older and they might not like this anymore.

Will you film target the same people or are you trying to introduce the genre out to a new audience?
When creating our final idea we have decided to target the same audience which the production company - Hammer Studios target, as our film idea was inspired by one of the films that they produced called The a Woman In Black, so by this we decided to target the same audience as Hammer a Studios when creating The Woman In Black.
We decided to certificate our film as a rating of 12, as that is what the Woman In Black is rated as, and as we have had our insiperation from the film. With our film there isn't going to be a big section which shows the blood on the brides neck so this could attract younger ages of 12, they would be able to see the film in the cinema as long as an adult over the age of 18 is with them and they do not believe it will scare them.
