7. What have we learnt since our preliminary task?
From when we created our preliminary task a few months ago, I found creating the final piece a lot harder as there was more pressure on us as a group as there was more to film, we had ensure that we got the shots right first time involving the killing and before the killing of the bride as we wouldn't re-film the opening scenes as the dress would have been destroyed by the blood and the eye shadow to create the dead affect on the dress to show the audience that she has been killed. We also has the pressure of making sure that the cut on the neck looked affective and as realistic as possible, while ensuring that the brides makeup remained how it was for her wedding day.

From when we done our preliminary task we learnt many different techniques when filming different shots which helped us select the correct shots for the different scenes. For example, in the scene of the bride being killed we decided to do a close up shot of the killing to avoid seeing the brides face at the time if her death as I didn't know how to have my face as my characters neck was being cut in order for her to suffer a painful death.

We also learnt to plan a lot more before scheduling to film the scenes, we done this by creating a full story board and script which would be used by the characters. This improved the characters performance as they knew what they were saying due to the scrip and the destinations of the shoots due to storyboard.
We realised the importance of organising our final piece from the prelim task as we found it hard to create our prelim due to the lack of organisation.

To help us in planning for the final piece we created different schedules for the different costumes which the characters would need on each day of filming, we also created a filming schedule to show when we was filming and what scenes which we was filming. This is the filming schedule which we used:

Due to us doing the prelim task I was able to notice how hard it was going to be to be able to create the  final piece as I had never done anything like this before and it was a new learning experience for me and I am glad that I participated within the prelim task and the final piece as it has increased my confidence in media which helped for the final piece as in the prelim task I struggled as I did not know what was needed then I done research which would help me and the rest of my group during the filming process and as well as the editing process.

Over all I enjoyed filming the final piece more than the preliminary task due to the amount we planned for the final piece to avoid anything going wrong within the filming. This helped us out greatly as we was able to film all the scenes which we needed on the set days we chose and all the group bring their costumes in for the filming as we all decided it would be best for us to all bring out costumes and props which was needed for filming the day before so that all the equipment we needed was at the college on the day ready for us and this also avoided one of us forgetting a piece of the equipment which was needed through the filming process. For example if I forgot the white dress on one of the days of filming and I was in the scene we would not of been able to film due to me not having the dress which would of set the group back a day of filming. So to avoid this we ensured that we all brought out costumes and needed props in the day before filming and then if we was able we could leave them at college for the next time we planned to film.

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
After we filmed all of the scenes we needed, we had to upload it to iMovie to be able to edit the footage. This is software produced by Apple, we was able to access this by the Apple Macs at college. We also used the cameras which were provide by the sixth form. The camera which we used was the Sony HVR-Z5E also along with the camera we used a tripod in order to hold the camera up for the shots that we did not want the shot to be hand held. We also to create all of our blog posts we used online software called Blogger.com. On this website we was able to write and publish our posts onto the Worldwide Web, this meant that people all over the world could view our blog posts about our preliminary film, and the research and development in order to be able to create our final idea of The Woman in White. Using Blogger.com wasn’t easy at first as I had to learn how to work it but now I know how to work the software online which I can use in the future if needed.

Personally, I found editing the film the hardest part as I had never done anything like this before which meant I had to learn from others in the group. For example, Brandon Playford done a GSCE in Film and Media in year 10 and 11, so by this he already knew how to edit the footage we recorded and make it look effective and get the timings perfect. I also had to less how to use the Sony HVR-Z5E cameras to help film different scenes that did not include my character in them (the groom getting ready and when the brides killer and the sister talking on the roof before the bride appears in the shot) so that I could be involved in the acting within the film and the use of the camera to record it. When we filmed we also used a tripod in order to have a steady camera frame during different scenes of our film. The times where the tripod wasn't used was during the shot of the killer walking off with the weapon

By editing out footage after we had filmed it, improved the overall look on the finished product as we was able to produce a title sequence that as a group we was proud of. Through the process of editing the film, Brandon Playford took the lead as that is what he works best in a he is more confident with using a computer as he also done ICT at GCSE and AS Level. This can be seen throughout the editing of the film, especially in the section when the bride is walking towards the camera and the effects are changing rapidly as she walks to create a gothic horror theme to the Woman in Whites haunting walk after the couple. I believe this made out film look more professional as the editing didn't look stupid and it was only used when we thought it was needed.

Due to editing our work was improved because it flowed consistently due to the editing. From doing this we were able to create the film through the use of iMovie on the Apple Macs at college. In addition, using the Sony HVR-Z5E improved the graphics of the filming, this increased the amount we could do to the footage in iMovie because of the footage was not pixelated which would of made it difficult, for us to edit, and select the different clips we wanted to input into our film.

5. How did you attract/address your audience?

We attracted our audience by using all the different codes and conventions throughout our opening scene and title sequence. The codes and conventions which we used was makeup, costume, hair, setting, performance props, camera shots and sound in order to successfully meet the requirements to be a successful gothic horror. If I was a member of the audience viewing this film I would mostly be attracted to the killing and for how it would be shown through the film and if it would look effective and match with the film.

During our Vox Pops a lot of the members from our college who we asked said that they would like to see our film from the explanation of the film to them. This made us as a group feel confident with our idea for our title sequence and opening scene as members from outside our group believed that the idea was good and that it would look good and extremely effective if the performance was shown and done correctly.  A couple of them also said that the killing in the opening scene would look good as you could continue to find out about the killing through the duration of the film.

We tried not to miss any codes and conventions out so we put them all into our film in order to achieve the codes and conventions of a gothic horror successfully. We ensured this by loads of planning before filming and scheduling all the different aspects of the film before filming so that on the days we selected to film we could go straight into filming and not have to sit and decided what to film and which shots we could use to develop our film further.

We targeted our audience with particular conventions such as the makeup and the costume because the makeup and costume make it clear that the woman who is being killed is getting married and afterwards that she has been killed and she is now a ghost haunting her killer and his girlfriend who turnt out to be the bride’s sister who had planned for her own sister to be murdered in order to receive more attention.

I believe that the key scene of the film is the scene where the bride was killed. I believe this because if the killing scene was not shown the audience would not understand why the bride had been killed or in what way and they would just see the bride haunting someone. Personally this was my favourite scene as it was the most enjoyable to film as we was able to pay around with the fake blood for the bride’s neck and was able to try shape a cut on the neck of me that would make the cut look realistic to the audience to make the members of the audience feel sorry for the bride and her future groom as they never ended up getting married due to the bride being killed while on her way down to the wedding reception with her sister.

Evaluation - Question 4

Evaluation

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
As a group we decided that we would have our film appeal to both genders, this was to widen the target audience as we didn't want to discriminate against one of the genders and make it a one gender type of film. Due to the wedding scene females are interested to watch the film but due to the killing, makes are interested in how the killing will take place on her wedding day. After the brides death both genders would be interested in the haunting scenes due to how dramatic they can get and that both genders will not know what's to suspect from the characters.

We chose to target the age range of 12 upwards in order to widen the target audience instead of aiming for 15+, due to us doing this we would of gained more of an audience as we would have released it as a certificate of 12/12A in the cinemas and in stores, this is because there is a focus on the blood on the brides neck but it isn't the main focus in the film which would of meant we would have had to bring the age certificate up to 15. We believed that the age range of 12+ would have been the most effective due to the story line and that there wasn't a lot of blood along with the bride’s death so it would not scare the younger audiences. Due to putting the film as an age rating of 12 we was not able to use swearing during our film, we also believed that swearing wasn't necessary throughout our opening sequence.

If members of the public liked the film The Woman in Black, they will like out version of The Woman in White as they share a similar theme and genre. Whereas, if someone did not like The Woman in Black, there is a strong chance that they might not like our version of the film. In addition, if the viewer did not like watching horror or gothic horror movies they will not enjoy our film as it had the codes and conventions of a gothic horror film, which may scare the viewer if they do not like blood or jumps within a film.

Our film did not have a targeted ethnic background as we wanted to target everybody over the age of 12 years old, in order to have a larger target audience to promote our film. The film would appeal to all ages above 12 no matter of the audience’s personal background, for example, such as their job or class. This means that the film can be viewed by people all over the world who have access to it as is targeted for all viewers.

As a group we done some research into the film The Woman in Black to select the correct target audience and we believe that we have chosen the correct age to release our film too as there is a small aspect of blood which will not scare children of the age of 12 but may scare children under the age of 12 due to the amount of blood which appears on the bride’s neck after she has been killed. I also looked at the film The Conjuring which was rated an age certificate of 15 and the other time which I analyses through he planning process of creating our final idea was Van Helsing which was also rated as a 12 like The Woman in Black which helped my group decide the age certificate rating while also using the BBFC website to read the requirements of each age certificate rating.

3. What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and why?

Through the planning process of our title sequence, I looked at two different institutions. The two different institutions I chose to research were Hammer Horror Studios and The Warner Bros. Studios. I chose these as they are different from each other but also have a few similarities with each other. Hammer Horrors are the institution who produced The Woman in Black where me and my group for our inspiration from, to be able to create our title sequence. Hammer studios  are commonly known for producing different types of horror films, this can be from the scariest horror films, gothic horrors to thrillers, by having a wide range of choice they are able to produce more films which will increase the target audience numbers as they can attract a larger audience by the use of other films which they have seen which was produced by Hammer Horror Studios. Hammer Horror Studios are most commonly known for The Woman in Black, this is because the film was released worldwide. This lead to the huge success of the film which then inspired us to create our final piece. The other institution which I researched was The Warner Bros.
This institution produce a different variety of film genres in order to appeal to a larger target audience. They have produced films like all of the Harry Potter’s, aswell as all the Batman movies, The Hangover and other films like The Conjuring, The Shining, Oceans Eleven, The Green Mile and Elf. This shows that they create a produce films from all different genres to widen their audience range.

If our film was going out to the general public it would be released to countries worldwide, not just the UK. This is because it would widen the target audience as we would not just be appealing the film to different people within the UK as you could get an audience from America or different counties all over the world. We would also want to be produced by Hammer Studios in order to have a huge success with our take on a gothic horror genre of film, as well as benefiting us it would also benefit the institution as they would receive a profit for producing the film as they will get a cut of the profit.

The target audience we selected for the film was a 12/12A so we would hope to aim for the age of 12 and up. We selected this age range as there is not a large focus on the blood when the bride is killed and when she becomes the Woman in White and out to get revenge for her brutal murder. We had to give it an age certificate of 12/12A in order to stop younger ages going to see the film sub hi could potentially scare them due to the content of it.

Our product is mainstream as a lot of different gothic Horror and horrors have different scenes within the films but they often always have scenes which are haunting another character with in the film or there are signs that haunt could take place. I believe due to our take on the gothic horror genre and the film The Woman in White, Hammer Horror would produce us as they are a mainstream institution who produces horror movies as well as gothic horror.

Evaluation - Question 2

Evaluation - Question 2

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Within our film idea we chose to have our group as the actors as then we could not need to depend on other people within college to be able to film for the title sequence. We chose these for each person to act as who, as we believed that is what would look best on camera and for who wanted to act as who when we planned the title sequence of The Woman In White.

During the planning stages we planned who would play all the characters, as a group we decided that I would play the role of the bride (The Woman in White)  who gets killed as I done Drama for 5 years including throughout year 10 and 11 where I studied GCSE Drama in school. Also out of me and Brooke Spencer I was the more confident out of us both so we decided that I would take on the bigger role to save getting other people involved in our film as this enabled us to not have to rely on other actors within out title sequence.

Also as a group we decided that the soon to be groom of the bride would be played by Brandon Playford due to his lack of confidence and that he is the most confident out of the group of working the camera. Due to this we decided for him to have a small role within the film so that he could focus on filming the rest of the film as that is what is is best at, but he still had the opportunity to star in our film along side us. We done this to use Brandon's skills in a different way in the making of our title sequence because he has no experience within a drama role but where he studied GCSE Film and Media Studies in year 10 and 11 so he had other experience with the equipment more than the others in the group.

To play the brides sister we chose Brooke Spencer, who also done a GCSE Drama course throughout year 10 and 11 with me but out of us both she was the least confident one so she wanted a smaller role so we chose for her to be the brides sister as she was able to show her drama skills learnt from year 10 and 11 during her school education within our film without being in it too much to make her feel uncomfortable.

Finally for the brides killer we chose for Tommy Brading to be the killer of the bride this was because he was the most confident out of the group as he is extremely confident person so we believed that he would be the best for acting in this role as this is going to be a large role within the title sequence as he has to perform the murder of the bride to be.

We decided for the brides sister and the brides killer to be a couple and that they had planned to kill her on her wedding day and leave no traces of DNA which could come back to the couple so that they could get away with the murder of the bride who later became the a Woman in White. The reasoning behind the murder of the bride was because the sister did not receive enough attention from their father and she wanted the sister out of the way so she would get more attention and be noticed a lot more.

Our inspiration of our title sequence came from the film The Woman In Black which was produced by Hammer Horror Studios. We was inspired by this as we believed that it would look good as we liked the idea of haunting someone as they would of done something bad to the woman. As the current film is called The Woman In Black we wanted the opposite of it and we decided to call ours The Woman In White. That is when we decided that we would input a wedding  scene into our title sequence and for the bride to be killed while in her wedding dress so that we could have the bride haunting her killer while she is in her dress which is covered in blood, mud and is slightly ripped up and you can see the cut on her neck to show that it is clear that the bride had been killed and that it has been a few years due to the mud and dirty patches over the dress to show that it has been a long period of time and that she is haunting her killer and is seeking revenge for killing her on her wedding day to the man that she loved.

This is the Woman in Black and this was our example of the Woman in White.
This shows the difference between the two characters is the colour differences, such as in the film which was produced by Hammer Horror Studios the Woman in Black is in complete black; she wears a long black dress and has a black veil over her face. She also has dark circles around her eyes which makes the character have a death theme as it looks like that her eyes have sank in over the years. Whereas, in our film idea the bride is dressed completely in white, her dress is short and she has white shoes on to show her innocence as well as it being her wedding day. It shows that she is good as she has chosen a white dress. Originally the bride’s eyes had dark circles when we filmed the first time but when we filmed again we decided not to have the dark circles around the brides eyes as we didn't believe that it looked effective over the camera.

We was also inspired by the film The Conjuring, in their title sequence as we liked the images of families coming up while the actors names was coming up on screen, we thought that it looked like the pictures was trying to tell a story. Due to this we wanted to create a similar title sequence including photographs of the characters from within our film to make the film look more realistic. We used photos of the brides sister and her boyfriend who turns out to be the brides killer at different events, we took photographs of them in formal clothing like they was at a dinner together, them in funeral clothes like they was at the brides funeral saying their goodbyes to her after the death on her wedding day and we also had photographs which couples would have together, such as a Christmas photo of them in knitted jumpers to show that they have been in a relationship for a long period of time.

We also had a photo of the bride and groom in formal clothing, the bride is in a blue dress and the groom is in a suit and his tie matches her dress and they look formal then we created an effect on the photograph to gave the bride scratched out in different places on her body as she had been killed and she had been taken from her husband to be’s life and that he will have to learn to move on in life without her. MOTION

These photographs show the change of the photograph of the couple as you can see the original photo and then you can see photo afterwards of the photograph and how the bride had been scratched out. The photo on the left shows the original photograph of the bride and groom and the photograph to the right shows the bride and groom with the brides eyes and neck scratched out. MOTION

There was only one character that was based on another character which was the bride (the Woman in White)  who was based around the Woman in Black. We done this because we believed that we could show our version of the Woman in Black, by changing the story line and the colour of her clothes in order to make it an original film. I believe this was effective as we was able to create a gothic horror character through the inspiration from the Woman in Black.

The bride matched two stereotypes throughout our opening sequence as she was in the traditional white wedding dress as she was about to get married then she was killed on her way down to the wedding reception which meant that her traditional white wedding dress was destroyed by her own blood from the hideous cut on her neck which caused her death. We also created the stereotype of a dead person aswell who is coming back for revenge as she is stalking her sister and her own killer as they are a couple, this could lead to disaster within the film.

Evaluation - Question 1

Evaluation - Question 1

For our final idea we created a title sequence and the beginning scene of it. We planned a Gothic Horror genre of film to create as we believed that we could create this in an effective way by ensuring we kept to the codes and conventions of a Gothic Horror film.

1.  In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In our film we focused on the codes and conventions of a Gothic Horror to create the right effect on the audience to capture the Gothic Horror genre. Throughout our work we used a large variety of codes and conventions of a Gothic Horror film. The main code and convention we focused on was the makeup of the bride.
Through the opening sequence, the bride has two different sets of makeup, the first one is what the audience will see first, when she is sorting her hair out for her wedding, within this section the bride has natural makeup which a traditional bride would have at their wedding we done this to show a code and convention of a happy romantic scene of the bride getting ready and her looking at her best for her 'big day'. The photograph on the top shows the makeup which the bride had during the scenes of her being alive. The photograph shows that she looks natural for her wedding and that her makeup has been done neatly and it looks professional for a wedding, then after the bride has been killed her makeup changes (shown in the bottom image) and it turns towards the Gothic Horror genre of makeup as we had to show that the bride had been killed and we created a large cut on her neck by using fake blood and dark eye shadow to create the horrific cut onto the brides neck to show how she had been killed. This photograph shows the transformation from a traditional bride to a murdered woman who was killed on her wedding day.

For the use of costume within our final piece we chose different costumes for the different characters shown within the film. For example, for the bride we ensured that she was wearing a white dress through the process of filming it for the typical white wedding dress which is worn by typical brides. Unfortunately, we could not find a long white dress which would have looked better than the short dress which we used. This is the white dress which we used for the filming process which the character wore. The dress shows that it was pure white with a little detail around the chest area. We would have liked to have a long dress for the film but we could not find one so we had to use the short dress which I found when I was shopping. For the groom, we ensured that he was in a suit to fit in with the traditional groom at a wedding.

On the day of filming the actor behind the groom forgot his jacket so we had to film without him in the full suit so we filmed him doing his tie so the jacket will not be needed within that shot. We chose for the brides sister to have two different costumes within the film do show that there was a time frame between the two shots as if the character was wearing the same clothes of the day of her death and five years late when she is haunting her and her boyfriend after her death. For the wedding scene we chose for the sister to have a white shirt which also had little patterns on it and as well as dark trousers to portray that it wasn't a full formal wedding as well as the bride in a short dress.  The setting also made the wedding look like it took place in a hotel or a low budget destination. For the scenes after the death, which are shown five years after the brides death the brides sister is in similar clothing as she is in a white shirt with a blue vest top underneath as well as dark trousers to show that the character hasn't changed much over the years that her sister has been gone. This could have been a sign of guilt as she doesn't want to change herself due to what she had planned for her sisters wedding day. For the killers costume we wanted him to have a black hooded jumper to hide his face during the killing so that the audience would be peeled and would want to continue watching the film as it is only the opening sequence. We then decided to have the killer in a black hooded jumper for the scene which was five years after the bride’s death in order to be able to hide the face of the killer when talking to the bride’s sister who knew about the kill. We decided to do this to make the character look guilty of what he had done and he feels like he cannot move on with this life due to what damage he has caused to the family. Overall, the costumes all had different meanings to them that also met the stereotype of the traditional white wedding.

Within the film all the characters had set hairstyles that would match with their character. For example, we decided for the bride to have her hair curled in order to make it look like she had gone to a big effort of having her hair done for her wedding day so that it would make the film look more realistic (photo to the left).  After the bride had been killed we made a mess of the characters hair in order to achieve the ‘dead look’ we done this by back combing the hair to make it messy and like it hadn't been brushed in a while, also trying to keep the curl effect on the hair of the bride (photo to the right).

For the groom we decided for him to have his normal hair which he would have for college but made more neat and tidy, he ensured this by getting his hair cut a little bit in order to put it into the correct position we wanted for the film. But for the bride’s sister we wanted a more natural hairstyle so we decided for the bride’s sister to have her hair up in a neat pony tail. This was to not draw attention to a bold hairstyle which would take it off the bride while getting ready and when talking to her sister’s killer. For the killers hairstyle it was hidden by either the hood or the hat which he wore which help hide his identity when killing the bride and talking to the brides sister five years after her death. But when the killer and the bride’s sister are walking down the road he has his hat and hood down and you can see that he has messy hairstyles which are effective as he was shown as a murderer.
Throughout our title sequence we played around with the color's on the film. For example when the film starts it has a brown effect over the camera so that it makes the film look old.  But during the process of the bride being killed it is in black and white which creates tension for the audience and it will make it more enjoyable.

We also done this as we thought it looked best against the blood work on the bride’s neck as she is being killed. During the scene of the brides killer and the brides sister talking in the roof to we kept the color the original one to see that it is a nice day and that they do not suspect anything is going to happen as it looks natural and that nothing bad could possibly happen.

We kept it like this outside when they started to walk as we believed it would look effective and as soon as the two characters walked of the camera frame the color of the frame instantly faded down to make the bride look more white as she was walking towards the camera in the direction that the other two characters walked in.

During the brides walk down to the camera we created a flicker so that it effect on the frame would change as the deceased bride walked closer to the camera. The two photos show the different effects we used for the walk scene.

The use of props within our final piece was extremely important as it would have been hard to create out film without the props we used, such as the weapon we used to kill the bride – a knife. We used a knife to create the cut on the bride’s neck in order for it to look realistic. But due to how close the knife would be to the actor’s neck we decided not to use a sharp knife for the health and safety of the actor behind the bride. We thought using a real knife would be good so they the audience sense that it the knife is going to kill the bride. Another prop we used was the brides dress as we was able to cover the dress in blood and eye shadow to create a death affect on the dress this looked effective as it shows that she has been dead many years.
Our whole film was set at the location of Bitterne Park Sixth Form, we chose to film it here in order to use the cameras from the college, and this meant we could get good film footage due to the high graphics on the cameras. Due to the facilities and the new build we was able to film the wedding scene with the sixth form building which meant we did not need to find a new destination to be able to film the wedding and killing scenes.

We also chose to film outside of the Sixth Form building next to the road in order to make the film look realistic as cars was passing like it was an ordinary day for the couple who are just taking a walk without knowing that there is a ghost behind them haunting them.

We also used many different camera shots when filming our final piece, the two main ones we focused on was an Over the Shoulder shot and a Close Up. This is because we believed they showed the codes and conventions of a gothic horror genre. This is an example of an over the shoulder shot we used we decided to do this so that you could see the costume of the groom as he is getting ready and you an see the back of his suit while also being able to see him doing his with in the mirror.

Additionally, we used close ups during the killing of the bride and after it happened, we done this by focusing on the cut of the brides neck by creating a close up of the cut. We also used a close up on the knife after the bride had been killed as you could see the knife still covered in the brides blood.

Another shot which we used which I thought was effective was the Long Shot of the bride walking towards the camera and slowly became an Extreme Close Up due to the bride coming right into the camera which formed an extreme close up.

I believe that this looked effective as the audience was able to see the full face of the bride once she had been killed as in the scenes before the walk they are from a distance and the audience could not see the brides face as we wanted the bride to be in the background of the sister and the killer.

From the use of the different types of editing for the film matches the codes and conventions of a gothic horror due to the jumpy editing in the last scene of the opening sequence. As when the bride is walking we changed the effect on the footage which caused the footage to jump and flash different colours which is stereotypically what happens in a haunted house. We created this affect in order to achieve the haunted theme within out film to create the codes and conventions of a gothic horror.

During the bride being killed we had music playing over it as well as diegetic sound from when the bride hit the floor after her neck had been cut by the killer. This showed that the bride did fall to the floor after her death which makes it look more realistic to the members of the audience. We also used a soundtrack to play over the background of the film in order to create the mystery effect on the film. By doing this I believe we made the film look effective as we faded out the music in the correct scenes in order to be able to hear the dialogue between the bride’s sister and the bride’s killer as it then becomes clear of why the bride was killed and that the killer was going to be the bride’s brother in law. This showed that the killing was for the bride’s sister to receive more attention from their father. After the talk is over the couple decide to go for a walk and as the couple walk and the killer passes a wooden post the deceased bride appears from behind the killer and remains there until the next shot. When this happened the music started again to show that the conversation about the bride’s death was over and they wanted to move on from it. At the end of the film when the bride’s face appears in the frame for an extreme close up there is a sting which ends the title sequence.

Our film matches the different codes and conventions of a typical gothic horror as the use of makeup is strong in order to be able to create the death look on the bride aswell as the use of hair and setting which showed the different use of the codes and conventions of a gothic horror. We also used the camera in a hand held position to create a gothic horror theme to the film. For example within horror and gothic horror films there are a lot of hand held shots as this creates an edgy and unfinished look which makes the audience start to speculate that something is about to happen and builds tension for the members of the audience.

I believe that the costume and the makeup of the bride met the specific conventions because her whole appearance changed from when she was alive to after she had died. We had to change the appearance of the bride after she had died to fit with the different codes and conventions of a gothic horror to ensure that our film met the genre requirements.

Overall, throughout our planning and creation of our film of 'The Woman In White' we matched, used and challenged different codes and conventions of the gothic horror genre. Due to this I believe that we made a successful opening sequence to a film.
